Freshman IT majors should see UCollege for their advising needs. Beginning Sophomore year, students see IT Advising.
It is best to come in for advising early
Course Offerings opens up prior to Advance Registration and shows all course sections (including those that are filled) as well as general education & IAI courses by category. REMEMBER: I CANNOT add or drop courses from student schedules. To aid you in planning your studies, view the School of Information Technology Anticipated Course Offerings. Course offering information is tentative and subject to change.
I can OFTEN give overrides for filled sections of IT courses, if you request a specific section, but I CANNOT give overrides for courses in other departments. You need to contact those departments directly. Let me know if you need contact information. It is the policy of the IT Department to refrain from entering permits for IT courses after the first week of class.
IT Major students may submit a course waiting list request by using this submission form.
IT Minor students, as well as Math majors, Physics majors, Cognitive Science majors, Actuarial Science majors and Technology majors may submit a course waiting list request by using this submission form.
All major courses require a C or better, but 1 D ONLY in supporting requirements ONLY is allowed. Math courses, however, always require a C or better to move ahead with a higher level math course. If you are sure you will not get at least a C, contact me right away so that we can revise your plan.
The system allows a student up to 2 enrollments in a course, and the new grade replaces the former in the cumulative GPA (for better or worse). Even though a WX does NOT count against a student's GPA, it DOES count as an enrollment. Students can request a registration clearance for a 3rd and FINAL enrollment from me. Students who do not earn a C or better in a major required course after 3 attempts will not be allowed to proceed with that major.
If you plan to take a course at a community college, check with me to make sure it will come in as a specific requirement. (REMEMBER: If you complete a course at ISU first, you CANNOT then complete an equivalent course elsewhere and receive credit here.)
Use all available resources to find a position then submit required paperwork to Tal Parmenter. Forms can be found on the IT website. Internships must be approved, & the student must register for the internship course (IT 398) to receive professional practice credit.
If you're not sure about something, don't assume. just ask. Feel free to email me with any questions. Thank you!
