When to Get an Internship

Complete at least 18 credit hours before registering for IT 498.

How to Get an Intership

If you need help or have questions and challenges during your search, contact the graduate advisor.

  • Attend the IT Internship Fair

    The School puts on an internship fair every year in September. Check your email around this time for more information.

  • Use the Career Center

    The Career Center at Illinois State provides you with career development and employer connections. They also put on a career fair every fall and spring. Attend a fair and meet employers with internship opportunities.

  • Sign Up for Announcements

    We use an email listserv to send out internship information.

Next Steps

After you get hired for an internship, send the following items to the graduate advisor for approval.

  1. Job description
  2. IT 438 Registration form
  3. An employment confirmation letter on company letterhead with your name, start date, and end date of employment (on-campus internship supervisors can send an email to confirm your employment)

You'll get an email once everything is confirmed.

IT 498 Registration

Spring and Fall Semesters: Register by 4 p.m. on Friday of the second full week of classes

Summer Session: Register by 4 p.m. on the first Monday in June

Credit

Students enrolled in Professional Practice receive one credit hour for each semester on a C/NC basis. The credit does not count towards your degree.
